Day 67, Halifax
As the ship was arriving only in the evening, we had a day to stroll around in Halifax.
Finally Tonatiuh expressed some leniency! Here we are at the memorial bells after the Halifax Explosion.
Another given site on a sunny day is Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the largest cemetery for Titanic victims (there are some buried at two other graveyards in Halifax, but Fairview Lawn is by far the largest).
The grave site is shaped like the bow of Titanic.
The "unknown child" who was identified with the help of DNA a few years ago (as a wrote about in my post from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic).
There were surprisingly many Swedish people buried here. The Pålsson family (Anglicised to "Paulson") is among the more famous victims and had a dedicated display at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic too.
Those unidentified have stoned only stating the date of death, with room to engrave the name if they are ever identified.
How does one qualify to get your own road sign? Were I to move to Canada, would I qualify with my hearing impairment to get one outside my home?
Famed for its lobsters, you can find lobsters everywhere in Halifax, from eating the crustacean as it is to lobster pizzas, hamburgers and the classic macaroni & cheese! Obviously I had to try!
We boarded ACL’s Atlantic Star in Fairview Cove in Halifax at about 22:00. There is no port agent fees here: you arrange the transportation to the harbour whatever way you want (we took city bus 29) and report at the security building on the western
end of Bayne Street.
As the ship is fully booked, we were upgraded to the premium cabin ("Owner’s cabin") without extra charge. This is the bedroom.
Bathroom is similar to the previous ship across the Pacific. In general this ship has a bit more run-down feeling to it, though, it is a few years older.
The premium cabin is differentiated from the other cabins by the ridiculously spacious sitting room. The only other person onboard with this much space is the captain himself.
